Welcome
Nice to meet you, my name is Dea Boom (1988) and I’m the owner of Psychologist Groningen. I’d like to tell you a bit about myself and my background, so that you’ll know who’ll be sitting in front of you.
Education and experience
I graduated in 2012 as a psychologist at the University of Groningen. I found the inner life of humans so fascinating and colourful, that I gladly started working at a couple of practices to gain work experience. I have learned a lot about different treatment methods and I express my own vision of the work through my own practice, Psychologist Groningen, since 2021.
In 2020 I graduated to become a gestalt therapist. After this I started to delve into Internal Family Systems therapy (IFS), polyvagal theory, the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) and neurobiology. Besides since 2016 I enjoy teaching my own developed course ‘How to deal with fear of failure’ to students at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen.
How do I help you?
In my life, personally and professionally, I strive to be respectful towards others. The differences between people make our lives richer and more fascinating and that’s why I’m always curious to know about what drives you and makes you the person that you are today. I will meet you from an attitude of trust and openness. I suspect this is one of the reasons why I get the feedback that clients don’t feel judged by me and feel that they can talk about anything, no matter how difficult the subject.
Other feedback that I get is that I radiate a sense of calm. I try to work from awareness as much as possible. This means that I take advantage of what’s happening between you and me in the therapy room. Say that I notice that I’m being distracted so we can explore this together. You may feel very lonely at the time or maybe you find it difficult to engage into a deeper contact with someone else. By offering you a safe environment where you can be challenged, we can open up new possibilities that you can integrate into your daily life.
Personal
Since 2020 I have been working from home in my own practice. Above the practice I live together with my husband and it’s a place where I can relax by playing the saxophone, dancing, gaming and being together with friends and family. I’m never afraid to show myself in therapy. I’m only a human being too and if it fits, I can show you how I deal with life. Because if I can do it, so can you.
I won’t tell you what to do. It’s my goal to help you become aware of what you’re doing and how that feels so that I can help you do the things that feel right for you, with your head and your heart. Which direction that goes, that’s up to you. I’ll just help you get there.
Take a look at what problems I can help you with and how we can work on them.
